Donna's review of Interpreter of Maladies
Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri
Her writing is very straightforward. She has obvious control as the story unfolds and it is often heavy handed and poignant--but somehow, all completed in such a casual way. Amazing. Close to the bone, honest, she admits the little things about being human that we are often too vulnerable to admit -- yet she does it with a commanding amount of control that makes her a trustworthy ambassador; in effect, you want to hand ideas over to her just to see how she would explore them on your behalf.
