This is one of favorite books so far! I was sure The Dot was going to be another unremarkable, but cute, story for kids-- I was completely blown away. Vashti is a young girl sitting in class when her teacher asks her to finish her picture. She doesn't believe she can draw so she makes a dot on the page and hands it in.

When the teacher praises her work and even hangs it in the hallway Vashti really starts to think. Maybe she can draw a better dot than that... Vashti takes a journey and discovers she can do more than she thought she could.
