really liked it
Recommended for: Theologically inclined people
Read from April 26 to September 27, 2011 — I own a copy , read count: 1

Really enjoyed the sections where D talked about the problems of faith in the modern world (now post-modern). The world, according to D, has rejected God as a beginning point for science, philosophy and even theology! Christians are now called to live with Christ in a world that has rejected religion without being religious. In the letters D's ideas were not completely expressed but a lot of interesting thoughts could come out of what he did write. ONe can see where Peter Rollins got a lot of his inspiration for some of his ideas from this volume, i.e. deus ex machina, etc... I would not recommend this book to those who aren't interested in, or ready for, theologic issues and perplexities. I like that fact that D could ruminate on the problems of faith discussing Bultmann, Barth, Kant and others and yet have a simple, real, trusting faith in Christ. We suffer with Christ in a world that has rejected God. The Christian does not run and hide; but embracing his calling to live in a world without God and suffer with Christ in that world.

He brings the Christian man back to the world with God in weakness...embracing Christ suffering's in a world that has eliminated God as a starting point or answer and thus becoming more pagan. I can see where Peter Rollins get's some, if not a great deal, of his inspiration.."
