it was ok

A fun but not great graphic novel. The writing is pedestrian and the cliches pile on one after the other, with every imaginable Vertigo graphic novel plot device and every western assumption about Middle Eastern culture recycled until the book itself has no distinct identity or style. It's a hodgepodge of everything that comes to mind when you say the word 'Cairo' and it takes on a lot more than it can carry, like a magic carpet sagging under too much weight till it drags on the desert floor. The b&w art is uninspired, workmanlike, and for a book of this length, there's almost no character growth or 'journey' of any kind. You can skip this one and not miss a thing - or read it and toss it and minutes later, forget you even read it at all. Unfortunate waste of paper and talent.
