Billy Bloom is seventeen years old and “fabulous beyond fabulous”. He moved from Darien, Connecticut and is attending a new school in Lauderdale, Florida after been sent to live with his father. The students at his new school don’t find Billy as fabulous as he had hoped and tease and torment him on the first day of school after he comes to school dressed in what sounds like a modern fashionista pirate outfit. Things get quite violent when he shows up to school in full make-up and costume. He is saved from the beating by Flip Kelly, the quarterback of the football team. As Billy recovers Flip is by his side throughout. Things are looking up as they become friends, the school has gone through tolerance training so he is “off-limits”, and his dad seems to be more caring towards him. With his new “tease” free environment at school Billy decides to run for homecoming queen with the help of Mary Jane previously known as Blah Blah Blah (because he never caught her name). Billy finds triumphs, tribulations, and a love interest at his new school and through it all he remains sharp and witty as ever.
