This was the first of Terry Brooks I immersed myself in. Of course, any fan knows that this series isn't a starting point! It ruined the more classic Sword of Shannara series for me, as it came before this adventure. Still, The Elf Queen of Shannara is one if my all-time favorite stories and it is book 3 in this particular compilation.
This compilation mixes the classic, poised, and epic feel of Sword of Shannara with a modern fun twist. Think a little less Lord of the Rings and a lot more The Hobbit minus the sing song poems. This creates a feeling of grand adventure that even as a 15 year old punk, I couldn't get enough of.
Unfortunately, for me, book 1 The Scions of Shannara was a slow shuffle for someone unfamiliar with the world of Terry Brooks. Still, this is a world one should not keep themselves from experiencing.
