bookshelves: biblical-fiction

This is a clever, well-written retelling of the Biblical story of Jacob, Leah, & Rachel but set in 1788, Scotland. Even those familiar with the Bible story, will be caught up in Higg's novel and wonder how it will turn out. Liz Curtis Higgs does a wonderful job of making 18th century Scotland come alive and she creates unforgettable characters. Prior to reading this book, I was only familiar with Higgs as a humorous writer of fluffy Christian Chick Lit. This is the first book by her that I thoroughly loved. The others in the series are nearly as good.
