This is the first book I've read by this author. The short stories are a great read. I'm delighted by Vonnegut's dark humor and vivid imagination, but always lit up with familiar and touching humanity. Plus, the stories are short enough that I can usually finish a whole one during my 15-minute train ride. This book has whetted my appetite to read more Vonnegut. Slaughterhouse-Five, here I come.
I love that many of the science-fiction questions he posed in the 50s are still relevant and interesting today. The thought experiments are such fun: What would happen if we could take an anti-aging serum and nobody ever died until they were at least 200 years old? What would happen if they outlawed sex for the purpose of global population control? What would happen if we figured out a way for the soul to live outside the body?
