I had high hopes for this one but it didn't live up to them. This book was slow moving and loaded with historical asides that only distracted instead of illuminating. The author seemed more interested in showing off his voluminous knowledge of Parisian history instead of moving along the central theme of the book, the story of Petiot, the serial killer. Petiot himself is a fascinating character and his story should have been enough for the entire book. I ended up abandoning this book a little over halfway through. Sadly, I cannot recommend this one. Try "Devil in the White City" instead!
