I liked "Fup" but I'm on the fence about it. Jim Dodge gives us three main characters. Two are stock characters from the backwoods--an ornery old man and a big, doofus boy named Tiny. Then Dodge gives us the unusual: Fup, a cantankerous duck who literally rules their roost.

If more of the book had been as poetic as the ending I might have loved it. As it is, "Fup" is a harmless little tale with a boffo ending and it won't take up too much of your time.
