WARNING! This book is fun, but there is one chapter you may want to skip, depending on your reader's age and maturity. One of J.D.'s friends loses his leg, overhears his father say he's "plumb useless" and decides to "do himself in." J.D. tries a couple of ways to help him before T.D. finds the two boys and stops them. The chapter could just be skipped. It was not something I was comfortable reading aloud to my 5, 8, and 10-year-olds.

Also, if you have a mischievous kid that will want to emulate the Great Brain's schemes, this one should be skipped.
