This book was very interesting, but I really enjoyed it. It shows that not everyone comes from a perfect home life, as evidenced by Joey and his divorced parents. Joey also has some kind of disorder or something (it doesn't really specify in this book) that he needs to be medicated for. When he goes to visit his dad for the summer, his dad takes him off the medication. All Joey wants is to be normal and not be on the meds, but he realizes that for him that's not possible. He also realizes that if the medication makes him feel better, then it's okay. It doesn't mean he's abnormal, it just means that he's different and he needs something to help him feel better. This deals with some concepts that not all kids would be used to I think, but I also think it's important that they know about this kind of stuff.
