After I gave up trying to understand all the confusing terminology, i.e.--Horde, Lore, Valkyries, Lykae, Furiae, Forbearers,etc.-- and concentrated on the love story between the hero Lachlain and heroine Emmaline, I was able to enjoy this rather hot and often humorous story. It was not a particularly fast paced read for me, and I suspect that may in part be because of the distracting Scottish accent the hero's dialogue is written in. Half the time I said to myself 'what did he just say?'. I also gave up trying to keep all the various valkyrie "aunts" straight in my head--there were a bit too many characters to focus on. But since this is the first full-length novel in the series, I assume a lot of that is needed to set the stage. I did like the hero and heroine; I thought Lachlain desire for Emma was kind of hot, and while Emma's timidness got on my nerves at times, I liked her more and more as the story developed. The last 100 pages did move much more quickly for me, a...more

939365 LOL--I like who it was recommended to you by Auntee (!)

Did you know that there's a novella in an anothology before the first full length book called PLAYING EASY TO GET? Kresley Cole's story is THE WARLORD WANTS FOREVER. I didn't like the other stories in the anthology but this one was good. I read the anthology after book 3 because I didn't know it existed **sigh sigh**. I'd have rather started with that than book 1 so that there are no spoilers seeing as the characters appear throughout the series. Just thought I'd give you the heads up :)

886675 I couldn't remember if you recommended it or not--I just know more than one somebody put a bug in my ear about it--until I finally relented! (I know that Kathrynn was the latest one to recommend it, though!) I was lucky to find it at the used book store today.
I actually have that anthology, but of course I can't remember if I read the Kresley Cole story or not! I will definitely read that one first! Thanks for the heads up! :D

939365 Hey Kathrynn! Yup it is! I wish I could start it all over again and not know what happens--it's just such a good series! When I hear a non-stop buzz on books I usually end up picking them up --wouldn't want to be out of the loop (lol!)

886675 Okay, okay--looks like I'm going to have to start this one after I finish "The Lover". That's another one you guys forced me to dig out of the TBR mountain! :D

939365 Woo hoo she's reading it! Did you already read the first one though in the PLAYING EASY TO GET anthology? I read that after the 4th one because I didn't know it existed (!) No big deal it's just that you'll know the outcome for one of the characters that always seems to pop up in the other full length books.

886675 Wow, this is really embarrassing! Look at those comments--they go all the way back to May! Looks like I'm really dragging my feet! And guess what--I haven't started yet! LOL!
I still have to finish "Cutting Loose", dang it! But I thought if I posted it as 'currently-reading', then I won't back out! :)
Now, do you think I should read the one in "Playing Easy to Get" first? It's sitting on the bookshelf behind me and it's boring a hole in my back right now.

939365 Auntee I tried that technique too with posting books as "currently reading" so that I would read them but then something comes along in the mail and what do you know, it gets pushed down the queue--but at least it's in the queue and not the pile anymore right =D

I'd read Playing Easy to Get first. It'll take a couple hours tops this way there are no spoilers later. I didn't like the other two stories in the anthology but a lot of other people did (they fall well into the "Books with Cooties" section!) --but save them for later and read the IAD! (lol!)

1037547 This is a keeper series for me. I love all of the books so far.
I read the Playing Hard To Get story in the middle of reading the books too. lol It's amazing how those short stories get buried in anthologies. Now I try and do the research before starting a series just in case.

939365 Auntee, the Valkyrie aunts got on my nerves too in this book and it was a new world sensory overload which is why it took me months to give the next books a try and they certainly made up for book 1 :D Book 1 really does set the scene for the books to come. The aunts also tone down their stupidity and you end up looking forward to seeing them ;)

East, I felt the same way about the aunts! At times they got on my nerves but then they said something witty and I didn't mind them so much.:)

1037547 As one of the irritating aunts myself to the rest of my family, I could totally relate to them. lol
