Hard scifi. Not bad, read it pretty quick.

Some of the ideas were pretty neat. I like the speculations about life on a gas giant. Although I winced when the biologist referred to dolphins as fish.

Characters are flat, plot seemed a bit contrived. But the exploration of ideas is why I read this, and Bova delivers on that, at least.
