Jason's review
Yeah, I love her too. I feel so lucky I found her - the title caught me: An Archaic Figure.
I have absolutely no idea why people think she's difficult to understand. Of course, I can't understand how people say e. e. cummings is difficult, either!
She's great - depth, imagery, what more could one ask for?
it was the selections from your american lit. reader from 'the mirror of the gorgon' that did it for me...
medusa is still one of my favorite poems...i've never managed to get hold of a copy of that book...it's apparently out of print...isn't that a shame?...
i first heard of george saunders there too...
i haven't gotten very far into 'kingfisher' but i've really liked what i've read so far...not entirely sure what she's up to yet...
Kingfisher is not my most favorite, true. I think I don't own it!
I do tend to respond immediately and vibrantly to many images etc that come from Ancient Greece. Lucky that way. . . Oh, but Medusa? Such a great poem!
We should get you a copy of the poems. . . Hey, will you be in San Diego/California at any point in the next few months?
i wish...
we're planning on taking a trip to san francisco in july...but not to san diego...it won't be long though before we do go, the wife's father still lives there...
i've seen copies used on ebay and on amazon...i'll pick up a copy my next amazon order...you know, that's one of the best things about being an english student...i can justify buying all the books i want!...
and i probably buy too many...but who cares?!...it's the summer, i have my thesis to work on but i can still expand the three hours a day i read to at least five...at least i hope i can...
Well, that's good news that the book is out there! And yes, it is a luxury to be able to justify (and take off my taxes) all my books.
I think it's about my biggest expense!
Have fun in SF! We have to figure out where we will go on a trip. If we can't work out Alaska or Montana, we're thinking Napa. Easier, more wine...
Reading for five hours a day sounds about right. I look forward to it, too.
Must find that Archaic Figure!! The literal and metaphorical ones : )
