The sentence "I told you so!" is deeply satisfying. Granted, the satisfaction you feel when you say it only lasts a minute or two, but for a little while, as you do your "I told you so" dance, you get to feel that thrill of vindication sweeping through your veins. 221952 Liked this too very much, especially the structure. I was a huge fan of The Braid (we had it on our NCTE Notables list) too. I think what may make this one a bit more kid-accessible is that it is a bit younger. I also felt unsure about the animals; you expressed it well. Interesting contrast to The Underneath, wouldn't you say?

221050 Ooo, yes! Can you imagine pairing this and The Underneath? On paper they both sound mildly dark, but The Underneath really runs with the darkness while Diamond Willow is positively fluffy in comparison.
