I have read other books by Judith Flanders and found them informative, inspiring and easy to read - sadly none of those adjectives apply to this book which was a profound disappointment.
Somewhere, Ms Flanders has lost sight of how to write an entertaining book and provided what turns out to be a detailed catalogue of murders that took place in Victorian times.
Although the chapters are titled 'Trial by Newspaper', 'Entertaining Murder' , 'Policing Murder' et.c, the book lacks a cohesive structure to carry you along and keep you reading.
A book that promises so much and yet delivers so little.
Could do better.
