it was amazing
bookshelves: sci-fi, fiction, favorites

It's been years since i read this book for the first time, I might not remember specific details but the story still resonates in my mind, if my mind was a tuning fork then Excession was a trigger that set it throbbing.

An unknown object older than the known universe appears in a far flung part of the galaxy. Entities race to possess it and chaos, hilarity and deep sci-fi introspection ensues.

Excession is probably the best book to start reading Banks' amazing Culture series. Set in a 'post-scarcity' universe run by subservient AI supermachines. Each of its books can be read on a stand alone basis, so you can pick and choose as you go. Look to Windward is another good option.
