I just found it horribly depressing all the way through. I felt so sorry for the the elephant, the worker and the old man. I dreaded picking it up. Yet I kept picking it up because I wanted to know how the story was going to unfold.
Marlena and Jacob were predictable, it was to easy to hate marlena's husband and fall in love with Rosie. Of course he fell in love with the poor pathetic lady in pink sequins on white horses who loved the animals. But what else did he see in her. I feel her character was undeveloped and pathetic, maybe realistic of that era but irked me none the less. I was so greatful for the end even though it was unrealistic compared with the story. But to have any other ending would have been brutal for me to have to read.
