Read from September 20 to 22, 2011

When a man accused of stealing $90 million from a law firm fakes his own death & is eventually caught, thus we have the base story for this '97 work by Grisham. "The Partner" is the story of Patrick Lanigan who worked for a law firm that won a settlement of that amount & decides to go on the run to protect the reasons why the firm won the settlement. The book begins in Brazil with Lanigan's capture at the hands of thugs & his torture along w/ extradition back to the states. Grisham keeps us guessing as he fills in the background of a cheating widow & her lover, a steamed law firm, & how politics can be bought. The story is full of more twists & turns than normal as Lanigan fills in whatever blanks he needs to in order to prove why he took the money & hid. It also shows why doing your homework when trying to prove a wrong doing is also just as important as ever. Through it all Grisham keeps us riveted as the lies & details come out & as we watch a man who threw away it all redeem himself for simply telling the truth.
