Unless: A Novel (P.S.) by Carol Shields
I absolutely love Carol Shields use of irregular words in this book(by irregular I mean unconventional). This book took me longer to read than most because I found myself constantly intrigued by the words she was using and made me feel the need to keep looking them on in the dictionary. Although this book is not typically my style of book, I did find it well thought out and interesting. I loved that Carol Shields made her character, Reta Winters a writer, as so vastly explores the life inside a writers mind. My major disappointments were that the middle seemed to drag out a bit, I admit I put it down for a week and lost interest. Also that the main focus tended to stray away from the most facinating part of the book, which in my opinion is the story of her daughter..who lives on the streets of Toronto with a sign reading 'Goodness'. I am not sure that Reta experienced those life changing elements I expected her to, so in that I found it a bit lacking. But I defiantly do enjoy Carol Shi...more
