I stumbled across a copy of this book while on vacation. I haven't seen the film version as of yet, but I always prefer to read the book if given the choice between the two.

This book is an astonishingly well-written report of how easily one man, in the right position, can circumvent due process and the rule of law. Everyone involved in the events described here seems to think of the incidents reported here as a great patriotic endeavor. I think it's a tremendous primer on the use of raw power.

One of the more illuminating aspects of the book for me was the history of the Afghan jihad. Despite the withdrawal of Soviet troops in 1989, the jihad never ended and still continues today. Only now they're fighting the U.S. infidels instead of the communist infidels. Those we armed as freedom fighters are now fighting us with the weapons we provided. Nophoto-f-25x33 Much agreed with your comment.
I am sickened every time I look at the news at see what the armed jihad is up to with Osama at the helm along with Zawahiri.

I am also amazed at what Tip O'neal & Charlie Wilson got away with
spending so much of our tax dollars without us US citizens even knowing about it.

A couple of other enlightening books are "America Alone" by Mark Steyn & Bullseye(about Israel's bombing of Iraq's nuclear facility in
the late 80's.
