Abandon (Abandon Trilogy, #1)
by Meg Cabot
by Meg Cabot
Audiobook edition, Day One:
I'm not 100% sure of this one. The story seems to be okay (nothing gripping yet), but I might need to file this on my "Audio Assault" shelf. The reader is not fingernails-on-a-chalkboard assaultive, but sooooooo slooowwwww.
Storywise it might be too soon to tell, but so far there is at least one adult family member who is rudely disrespectful to the younger generation. Good times, eh?
------------------
Okay, the book has been moved to the 'Abandoned' shelf. I have no idea if the story was good or not. Being able to say that when I've listened to over one quarter of the book is not a good thing.
The writing style killed me. Non-linear exposition in dribs and drabs, it was almost like the author didn't really want you to know what brought the character to where she was. I had to work too darned hard to piece together the traumatic events/experiences.
The reader didn't speed up, either. The narration was full of so many pregnant pauses I thought my ovaries were going to cramp. Seriously. Talk-talk-pause-pause-pause-talk-talk-talk-end-of-sentence-long-pause. If the book had a sound track, maybe those pauses would be filled with dramatic music.
