This didn't end as strong as it started. Let me say starting out that I'm not a big fan of "gods" theme. I hate it for the most part and avoid it in my fiction. There were parts of this book when I thought it would be a solid 4, but the longer it went on, the more the main character spent interacting with gods, demi-gods and on various planes of existence.

By the end, it was too tangled and involved too much celtic myths for me. Was a bit repetitious with the "I can barely believe this is happening." And some of the whole this plane and that plane of existence made it impossible to connect with.

Overall it was very well written and had great characterization. Half of the things took place in Seattle--loved that, but the other half was on various astral planes and that just isn't my thing. Gods are boring, too inhuman and too powerful for me to find compelling.

I really liked the main protag and her supporting character cast, but some of the action was way over-the-top. Granted it's fantasy so it isn't "realistic" but how many times can one person be stabbed through the guts, hit on the head and so on? It just turns into a "and now heal-thyself" kind of thing. And seriously, let the girl sleep. Her lack of sleep didn't border on ridiculous, it was ridiculous.

It's a wild adventure and not your standard UF. I'd give the storyline at least 3, maybe 4, but some of the way the whole battle was "merged" into "reality" didn't work for me. It's a personal preference thing, but having too many "normals" see what is going on makes it far less believable for me.

Some of it is okay, but this was too much. I mean, I can take a "vision" once or twice or maybe a visit from some other plane...but limited. And not to instantly solve a problem. These went on too long for me.

I bought this one a while back, so I'm already one step closer.

There's a very implausible scene in the first chapter that annoyed me to no end--but you get past that and there's some good stuff. And then some not so good. Yanno.

Deal.

April Pooh. I've already read it so I can't join in on the fun 'read next month' deal. I liked it better than Maria though.
