I read this because I'd seen the movie and I wanted to see how the book compared. Believe it or not, Becky is actually MORE likable in the movie. I suppose it was worth reading for an understanding of one of the great "anti-heroines" of literature, but it was long, dragging, and depressing. Even the happy endings, weren't. It took me over a month to read this, not because it was all that long or that difficult, but because it was so depressing that I didn't want to read more than a few pages at a time. I'm sure he's written better books, but this scarred me for life and has probably turned me off to Thackeray for good.
