This picture book caught my attention, because my third grade teacher Ms. Nelson would always yell BALONEY!!!!!! if she thought that your excuse was complete nonsense. As soon, as I opened the book the storyline shows a small alien school child arriving to school late. His last name happens to be Baloney. He goes into giving his excuse and his story is just nonsense. What I really found interesting is that the author used different languages and letter and sound manipulation to create new vocabulary terms for common words such as pencil and calculations. Good picture storybooks have good illustrations. The illustrations were very colorful and some pages had different sized panels to place emphasis on the words as well as the story line. Good book and easy read. It could be used to help kids appreciate vocabulary and the power of words.
