July 16, 1942, Paris –Through the eyes of 10 year old Sarah Stravinsky readers experience the roundup of 13,152 French Jews most of whom were subsequently exterminated at Auschwitz. 2002 – Julia Jarmond, an American journalist in Paris, is assigned to cover the 60th Anniversary memorial. Sarah’s key holds the connection between the two. Deftly intertwining the two stories, de Rosnay explores the impact of a moment in history on generations of people and a whole nation.
