At first, this book reminded me of Kate Morton's big best seller, "The Forgotten Garden". However, I liked "The Legacy" better! Beginning in about the middle of the book, I just couldn't put it down. This is another book with two stories woven in to one. One story from the past and one story from the present, concerning the same family. What I loved about this book is that I was surprised at some of the revelations - I love it when that happens! The characters in these stories would make for great book group discussions. I could sympathize with the characters from the present. But as for Caroline, her bad decisions in the early 1900's were despicable, and changed the course of everyone's life, and I did not have any empathy for her in the end. The title of this book is perfect - what a legacy, indeed - everything comes around full circle! The actions of the past affecting the future so distinctly. I will not hesitate to purchase the next book from this author!
