Personal Reaction

First of all, I was intrigued by this cover and the title. I wondered how the picture and the title of the book went together. I liked the format of the book - the days before and the days after. I kept reading trying to figure out how many days before what happened? I was surprised with how normal Miles, aka "Pudge" really was. Alaska was definitely a little more on the wild/ rebellious side. The characters made for a diverse, interesting group of high school boarding students. I'm glad the book did not focus too much on the rich Weekday Warriors, but rather the relationships and pasts of "Pudge," "Colonel," Alaska, Takumi, and Lara. The second part of the book was beautifully written. There was suspense, loyalty, and testing of friendships. I loved the ending and how they paid homage to their friend, Alaska.
