Summary: This book tells the story of oldest child Peter and his family which is expanding due to the birth of a little sister, Tamara (aka "Tootsie"). His little brother "Fudge" is a dangerously smart and mischievious four year old who steals the show at every opportunity. Peter, who is average on all accounts, finds himself struggling to find his place in his family between the new baby and his over-the-the top little brother. When his parents decide to leave New York City and move to New Jersey, Peter begins to believe nothing will ever go right for him.

Evaluation: This book was just as fun to read as an adult as it was when I was a child. Judy Blume writes in a very lighthearted manner and tells stories so vividly that you'd think you were there. Her books are highly imaginative. I think any older sibling can relate to Peter's resentment of Fudge's constant antics. This book could be used to get children to talk about new babies or sibling rivalry. It could also be used to lead discussions about change and how children can find positive ways to deal with new and different situations.
