This book is a nothing if not a sweet story about an unlikely romance. In fact, there is almost nothing that isn't enjoyable about this book: the characters - a retired Major and a Muslim shop keeper, the setting - the English countryside, the humor - dry, British humor. Simonson strikes a perfect balance for me between developing a plot and describing characters and surroundings (though I tend to slightly veer toward "slower" books that focus on character development). And not only is it an enjoyable read, but it brings up cultural issues all have faced in some shape or form. Brew a cup of Earl Grey Tea, pull up a wingback chair, and enjoy!
