Read from January 14 to 19, 2012

Al Binewski decides to save his nearly-bankrupt traveling carnival by feeding his wife drugs and chemicals so that she will bear a litter of freakish children that can be put on display to the paying public. After that, things get weird.

This book panders to the idea that a person with a monstrous exterior will, of course, be a monster on the inside as well. National Book Award finalist or not, this book was terrible.

Maria Schneider Wow. I don't think I could force myself to even read a book with that theme.

Michelle Honestly, I don't know why I kept reading it. Probably because it was a National Book Award finalist. Also, the Book A Day calendar made it sound different than it really was.

Maria Schneider Sometimes books are so bad, you can't even believe it. It's like a train wreck, fascinating in its destruction.

Michelle Lol. That was it exactly. A lot of people really loved this book. I guess I'm not cerebral enough to appreciate it, lol.
