Overall a sweet little story from days of yore.
I really liked that the protagonist started as a plain, disagreeable, unlovable child. Ok, so she did make a 180 degree change in both looks and temperament by the end of the book, but the way that the story is woven it seems the right and proper course.
I also really liked that giving it's historical context all due consideration, there was remarkable little sexism or classism.
My biggest pet peeve? The dialogue of those with the Yorkshire accents. I understand the purpose behind it, but have always found such a tad annoying.

My favorite book as a child, would love to read it now to see if it still holds the magic!
