Lindqvist has been called the Stephen King of Sweden. His novel "Let the Right One In" has inspired two classic horror films and he is well on his way to fulfilling his status.

With his latest effort, "Harbor", Lindqvist crosses into other-worldly territory that calls to mind the work of H.P. Lovecraft along with nice touches of both King and Peter Straub. When a couple loses their young daughter on a remote island they are torn apart by the loss. What is more perplexing is how she disappeared on a small island entirely surrounded by solid ice. Her father is convinced she is still out there, somewhere, and dedicates the rest of his life to searching for her. His search will bring him into the dark past of the island where the dead still walk and nothing is what it seems.

A bit overlong and not packed with enough scares --- this creepy novel will appeal mainly to those who prefer epic horror as opposed to the in-your-face brand the genre usually turns out lately.
