really liked it
bookshelves: how-to
Read in January, 1989

It's been more than 20 years since I read this book, but I was just thinking about it today. In a time when the country is facing what could become another depression, I think it's a positive thing to reflect on how people lived happily in the past without a lot of the frills we take for granted now.

This book isn't so much about Virgnia as it is about how rural Americans lived in the early 19th Century. From what I remember, it was the best resource I could find in the Frederick library for some school project I was assigned on the topic. There were explanations of how different things were done, and illustrations of the tools they used.
