** spoiler alert ** this was even worse than Pillars (which also wasn't very good), seriously, there are SOOOO many things wrong with this book that i don't know where to start. this guy is really bad for the environment - his books are unnecessarily long, and this one can be cut down to half the length at least.

1. the character of Caris. this character i thought was a rip-off of Charis from The Beacon at Alexandria by G. Bradshaw. A girl born in a wealthy family, wants to be a doctor, sacrifices her personal life to achieve her dream, but in the end gets both. sounds suspiciously familiar.... even the names are similar!

2. various parts of the story just weren't believable. seriously, how can a pair of english nuns travel thru war-ridden Normandy (sacked by the english) and make it alive? sure, they dressed as boys, but still. how come the townspeople can rush to the king's court every time there's a dispute? it probably wasn't very easy to travel very far back then, no matter how im...more
