If we had half stars, I might have given Hereafter one-and-a-half. The writing was lame, there was no logic behind any of the major plot advances, and the characters were completely flat and one-dimensional. It seemed like the whole book was about how the ghost felt when the boy touched/kissed her. It was pretty much always the same every time they touched/kissed, except longer descriptions each time, and they touched/kissed at least once a chapter.

In any paranormal book, there's an expectation that the writer will create an alternate universe that has a definite set of rules that the reader can understand. An alternate reality. Which feels real. This world felt like something my seven-year-old might have come up with. Totally random, and with no logic. Suddenly, something happened. And it saved the day. And we still don't really know why. Nor do we care.
