it was amazing
bookshelves: fiction, favorites

I loved this book. The 500 pages went far quicker than I expected and the story sucked me in deeper than planned. The characters, regardless of how much I wanted to yell at them, to set them straight, they still ended up mattering to me. Having read the hype (surprisingly non-spoiler) in Vanity Fair, New Yorker, NYTimes, NY Mag, etc, I was expected to be let down, and yet this delivered. The setting reminded me of my alma mater. The sport reminded me why I care about sports. And the characters reminded me why I read fiction. I basically loved everything about this novel and couldn't suggest it more. It's a baseball novel that isn't about baseball. That's all you need to know to get started.
