It's hard to believe, but someone with no knowledge of American history could read this book and believe that there were there perhaps only three women who did anything of merit in this country from 1865 - 2000. Readers will get halfway through the book before encountering a single woman mentioned by name -- though they will have read, at that point, about prostitutes and women of "low morals" several times.

This level of omission of an entire gender can't be accidental, and since this isn't meant to be a text about the history of men in America, there is just no way to consider this text worthwhile in any way. No history text is complete, but this has such a huge, gaping hole - where all the women should be - I'm unsure how it was even published. Teaching a class using only this text is educational malpractice. Reading this text and thinking you've received even a basic outline of the picture of modern American history is folly, at best.
