Kane is one of my favorite kinds of heroes. He is alpha but not brutish, and his sarcastic and tough-guy exterior are used to hide how soft-hearted he is inside. Kane was one of the guards sent to "service" (a.k.a. rape) Sherra when she was in the Breeds labs. Instead, he seduced her and made love to her and showed her the first real pleasure of her life. His sensitivity toward her feelings and his compassion, as well as the blazing passion between them, forged a connection neither one could deny. Unfortunately events would unfold that would lead her to believe he betrayed her and force him to accept her death.

Ten years later they come together again, but Sherra has never forgotten or forgiven Kane for leaving her behind. Kane is staggered to find out that Sherra is alive. While he understands her reasoning, her hatred wounds him. He has loved her since that fateful night, and has done nothing but honor her memory and avenge her death in the decade since. When faced with the truth of what really happened, Sherra is appalled to learn that Kane didn't betray her, and in fact almost died trying to save her. Ten long years of mistrust and hatred is hard to let go of, though, and she has a hard time letting her walls down again. She almost takes it too far, and it's hard to believe she would go so long without contacting him at all. Kane was so perfect for Sherra. He knew when to push her and how far to go, when to back off and let her stew. He willingly gave his body while hoping for her heart. When he finally has enough and turns from her, Sherra realizes just how strong his feelings are and how much she is hurting them both by denying her feelings. I thought she was a worthy partner for him and their happy ever after was very touching, and they were so deserving of it!
