Having recently read Memoirs of a Geisha", I thought this would be an interesting view of the European courtesan. Although the courtesans life revolved around more sexual activity than a geisha, this book was informative without being crass, which I thought the geisha book sometimes was. Hickman writes well and has a nice balance of facts and her interpretation.
