Seventeen-year-old Bess Heath meets Tom Cole on her way home from boarding school. Tom, described as a river man, is not considered good enough for Bess by her family and friends, but she falls in love and marries him anyway. I enjoyed the novel and loved the detailed history of the Niagara River and Falls. I also enjoyed the old photos.
