Clare Morrow finally has a solo show of her art at the Musee d'Art Contemporain in Montreal and it is a critical success. Unfortunately, the next morning the body of her former friend, Lillian Dyson, is found in her garden in the tiny Quebec village of Three Pines. Chief Inspector Garmache and his team has to investigate the crime where several of the suspects are his good friends. In addition, the plot delves into the art world and the back stabbing and jealousy that run rampent through it are uncovered one level at a time. I unconditionally love this series. Louise Penny has created a community in Three Pines that has a unique appeal. It is populated by a group of strong, eccentric characters who alternately annoy and enchant, but always support and take care of each other. I'm already looking forward to spending more time in Three Pines in Penny's next book. One word of caution--read these books in order. While each can stand alone, the experience is enhanced by the complexity of the developing subplots.
