Intriguing book when read with the view that Antoinette is the woman in the attic in Jane Eyre. Interesting also, that Bronte doesn't make the woman in the attic a person, which considering her feminist approach to Jane is surprising, but maybe the woman's animal nature can be seen in another way that's too much for me to try to think about at the moment.

Rhys is a strong writer with a unique voice. I have had a hard time enjoying her other books, but I found this one a good, fast read. The descriptions of Jamaica in that period are beautiful and terrifying at the same time.
