Not his best work, but also not his worst. It was a great story and I liked the characters and the inclusion of a moor cat in there, even if it was just a cameo. I'm wondering how the black staff idea, the talisman idea, of magic will eventually blend into the druid idea of magic that we see in the original Shannara series. The only problem that I had with the book was that it was a bit predictable. I was able to skim quite a bit of it and not miss anything because it was very easy to see what was coming. But all in all it was still a good adventure by a great author. There was one real misstep that I noticed. At one point in the story a character is talking too much and another character threatens to tape his mouth shut. That threw me off because they are living in a world with no modern conveniences so they shouldn't even know what tape is. Just a little slip up.
