Kayleigh The Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a great book, which is just one laugh after another. It is a dairy that Gregory has been asked to write by his mum, to air his thoughts and feelings to his dismay. However, Gregory does including all types of illustrations of things that have happened to him over the school year. It is written is a way that is made easy to read for those at the higher end of KS2 level, and if read may even encourage them to start a ‘Diary’.

The Diary includes various topics such as older and younger siblings, best friends, likes and dislikes about certain things, parents, teachers, hobbies, and interests. It really does cover a wide range of topics all that would be seen of interest to 9-11 year olds. The book goes through different events through the school year, which happen inside and outside of the school walls, including Halloween and building snowmen at Christmas. I believe that this book could really get children to think about their own daily happenings relating to them to Gregory and even sharing them with each other. If used within the classroom as a reading activity, children could be encouraged to write a blog online just like Gregory did, using the book as guidance.

This is definitely a must read and no doubt will remind you of all the things you used to get up to as a ‘kid’. After reading this book, you suddenly feel 10 again nearly forgetting how fun childhood once was!!
