Private Scandals
by Nora Roberts
by Nora Roberts
I killed two birds with one stone with this one. Not only did I finally read a book by Nora Roberts, but I also finally checked out the Overdrive audiobooks my library has been providing for the last year. I'd been hesitant to try it out, first because they initially didn't offer an iPod compatible format, then because I don't listen to audiobooks as much as I used to, so it generally takes me longer than the 7 or 14 day loan periods to finish one. But I'd decided to take a solo trip this weekend, and an audiobook was a welcome companion. I was pleasantly surprised with the whole downloading processing, which wasn't much different than when I had paid for my audiobooks from Audible.
As for the book, I definitely enjoyed it. The story follows the career of rising TV star DeAnna Reynolds. Along the way she deals with the perils of a career in journalism, the jealous mentor who tries to sabotoge her career when she realizes DeAnna might be more talented, the challenges of making a relationship work in a field that requires such crazy hours, learning to put past horrors behind you when you're constantly in the public eye, and crazy fans, among other things.
There was so much going on in this book, and yet it all fit together into a compelling and emotionally fulfilling story. Even early in her career, Roberts seems to have had a solid grasp on her craft.
