I was tempted to give this four stars, but it didn't quite deserve it. I read the book in two days and was never bored, but it felt like Dean Koontz was just pumping out another novel and didn't want to take the time to add some depth. I liked the characters for the most part and the story was interesting. I had two big problems: 1. Koontz's use of dialogue was infuriatingly annoying to me. Instead of just writing everything a character has to say in a paragraph, he would write one line, then make a comment, then write another line, make another comment, on and on and on. I get what he was trying to do but it just got really tedious. 2. The main character seems ashamed about his past throughout the book, but it is not something anybody would be ashamed about.
