Bernie is a PI and along with his dog Chet he investigates and solves mysteries. What makes this book stand apart from other standard detective books is that Chet is the narrator. I have three dogs myself, and have found myself wondering exactly what they are thinking, and I must say Quinn seems to capture the doggy mind perfectly. Chet is fiercely loyal to Bernie, spends a lot of time thinking about food, and gets confused by colloquialisms.

Having a doggy narrator can be helpful. Chet learns various things that he can "tell" the reader but can't communicate to Bernie, so the reader is ahead of the game in this regard. However there are also times when Chet gets bored and sniffs out a hot dog or takes a nap when Bernie is having important conversations, ans thus we the readers miss out on important clues.

Overall a very cute book, but there is nothing really exceptional beyond the dog narrator. In fact there are a couple of really trite action movie plot points that I was definitely rolling my eyes at. I would recommend for dog lovers who want a light fun read. Three stars overall because my mom would kill me if I gave it anything fewer!
