Okay, win.

I have a friend that knows me well literarily (it's a word now, hush) and gave me a fancy, uncorrected proof. She is probably reading this. It's what she said it is - a fairy tale retelling, but you don't really know which tale until you've read far enough.

(Or far enough on this page apparently - there are spoilers right below me. Oy.)

I loved it. I drank it up in a week like a magical tonic. I didn't expect that Charlotte's voice would twist in the same way I am drawn to, revealing patterns I got to explore in thesis days. It got me thinking all over again about a line of narrative that resonates palpably with me.

And it's just - I say this a lot - engaging. It made me feel twisted inside and racked with anger at certain characters, even the ones I was most sympathetic toward.

I was wondering whether she'd complicate the ending, but, a sucker, I was pleased.
